Mizuho to Hire RBC Tech Banker for Senior U.S. Role

(Bloomberg) -- Michal Katz, one of the most senior female investment bankers at Royal Bank of Canada, is joining Mizuho Americas later this year to head its banking division, according to people familiar with the matter.

Katz will report to Gerald Rizzieri, president and chief executive of Mizuho Securities in New York, said the people, who asked to not be identified because the matter isn’t public.

Representatives for both Mizuho Americas, part of Japan’s Mizuho Financial Group Inc. and RBC declined to comment.

As co-head of global technology at RBC Capital Markets, Katz advised companies including Cisco Systems Inc. and LogMeIn Inc. on transactions. She served on RBC’s management committee and on the bank’s regional operating committee, according to her biography on the website of Nuance Communications Inc., a public company where she serves on the board of directors.

Michael Carter, Katz’s co-head of RBC’s technology group, will now be its sole head, one of the people said.

Katz moved to RBC’s investment banking division in 2013 from Barclays Plc. She joined Barclays in 2008, according to her LinkedIn page, as part of the firm’s takeover of most of Lehman Brothers, where she started her banking career in 1996.
